Shinji Ogawa is a conceptual artist, whose works are mainly ultraprecise drawings and paintings that involve the mystery of quantum theory under the theme 'what the world is'. He creates various kinds of works by using traditional techniques such as oil painting and pencil drawing. His representative series are “Without You”, in which he copied famous masterpieces and then remove the human figures from the images, “Perfect World”, in which he added a person or building that is depicted exactly the same with the one in the original picture from old postcards, and “Behind You”, in which he depicts the imaginary landscape behind the figure in the foreground. In recent years, he works on huge pencil drawings including his new series “Symmetry/Asymmetry”. Viewers are astonished by his outstanding descriptive ability and also attracted by his dreamlike weird world and rediscover the structure of the world.
